REAL WORLD LEARNING CONTINUES IN THE SUMMER FOR DANIELS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENTS
This summer, Daniels Elementary Academy in Grand Prairie hosted a Community Wind Fair to celebrate the end of a two-week summer academy that intensively examined wind and solar energy in Texas. Rising third-, fourth- and fifth-grade students voluntarily participated in this enrichment program, which explored alternative energy through an integrated STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) curriculum.Program Assistant, REAL School Gardens

Edible Dallas & Fort Worth is a quarterly local foods magazine that promotes the abundance of local foods in Dallas, Fort Worth, and 34 counties in North Texas. New School Garden Teaches Many Lessons Including Healthy Lifestyles
Chesapeake Energy and The Medtronic Foundation join REAL School Gardens in support of The Academy of Carrie F. Thomas
REAL School Gardens, a Fort Worth-based organization that brings gardens to underserved elementary schools in North Texas, is extending its reach through generous support from Chesapeake Energy and The Medtronic Foundation. Birdville Independent School District’s The Academy of Carrie F. Thomas will benefit from the Chesapeake-sponsored vegetable and perennial beds, as well as pond and hardscape materials provided by The Medtronic Foundation. The community will come together to install the school’s outdoor classroom on Saturday, April 24, beginning at 9 a.m. at 8200 O’Brien Way in North Richland Hills. More than 200 volunteers are expected to help create this new school garden with the objective of improving students’ academic and personal health.

In conjunction with the 40th anniversary of Earth Day, Dallas Mayor Tom Leppert and the Dallas City Council acknowledge the environmental efforts of REAL School Gardens with a special recognition applauding the group’s work to provide hands-on learning opportunities based in nature for elementary school educators and students within the Dallas Independent School District. Chesapeake Energy joins REAL School Gardens in support of I.M. Terrell Elementary
REAL School Gardens, a Fort Worth-based organization that brings gardens to underserved elementary schools in North Texas, is engaging the community along with financial support from Chesapeake Energy. I.M. Terrell Elementary in Fort Worth will be the second school to benefit from Chesapeake-sponsored vegetable and perennial beds installed as part of its school’s outdoor classroom on Saturday, April 10, beginning at 9:00 a.m. at 1411 I.M. Terrell Circle. Hands and shovels will be busy as new vegetable and flower beds will be prepared, seeds sowed and plants installed with care by children, parents, teachers and community volunteers from Chesapeake Energy, I.M. Terrell Alumni Association and the City of Fort Worth.

Due to weather, the Victor H. Hexter Elementary School garden installations in East Dallas has been postponed from January 8 to January 22 and 23. The Alex Sanger Elementary School garden installation currently remains scheduled for January 15 and 16. Robert E.
